What this converter does with an EPS file
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a container for PostScript drawing commands, usually produced by Illustrator, CorelDRAW, old prepress tools, or plotting libraries in LaTeX and MATLAB workflows. Almost nothing on a modern desktop opens it directly: Preview and most Windows viewers show nothing or a low-resolution preview thumbnail, browsers refuse it, and PDF is the format everyone can open.
On MiConvert, EPS goes through the image-to-PDF path. The file is rendered to a bitmap by ImageMagick using its PostScript renderer, then that bitmap is placed on a PDF page by pdf-lib. Everything that makes the PDF happens on our servers; only the thumbnails and the drag-to-reorder preview run in your browser. The render is one pixel per PostScript point: an EPS with a 119 by 180 point bounding box gave a 119 by 180 pixel image in testing.
What survives is the appearance: the shapes, colors and type as the renderer draws them, centered on the page you pick. What does not survive is everything that made the file vector. The PDF has no paths, no selectable or searchable text, no layers and no spot-color plates, and it will show pixels if you zoom far in. There is also no resolution setting on this page: the artwork is rendered at its own point size, and the quality presets can only reduce that.
So this converter fits people who need an EPS that anyone can open, review, sign off on or attach to a document: a logo sent by a designer, a figure from a journal submission, clip art from an old CD. If you need the PDF for print production, for placing in InDesign, or for a LaTeX document compiled with pdflatex, you want a real vector PDF instead, made with a local tool that keeps the paths.
How to convert EPS to PDF here
- Decide first whether a bitmap PDF is acceptable. If the PDF has to stay vector or keep live text, convert it locally instead; the FAQ below names the tools.
- Check the EPS bounding box in your drawing program if you can. Because the render is one pixel per point, artwork saved at a small point size gives a small, soft image; enlarging the artboard before exporting the EPS gives a larger render.
- Upload one EPS, or several at once. Other image types can go in the same batch, and you can drag the thumbnails to set the page order or rotate any of them in 90 degree steps.
- Set the page: A4 (the default), A3, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid, or Fit to image, which makes the page exactly as large as the render (1 pt per pixel); note that in this mode the quality presets still re-encode as JPEG but no longer downsample. Pick auto, portrait or landscape orientation, and no margin, 0.5 in, 1 in or a custom 0 to 100 mm margin.
- Leave Quality on Original to embed the render as a lossless PNG. The High, Balanced and Small presets re-encode as JPEG at quality 92, 80 and 65, downsample to 300, 200 or 150 dpi of the drawn size, and flatten transparency onto white.
- Optionally fill in Title, Author, Subject and Keywords, or set an open password, then convert and download. One file keeps its own name; several files become a single merged.pdf. Download links work for about four hours.
What you can control
- Page setup per job: six page sizes (A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid) plus Fit to image, auto/portrait/landscape orientation, and four margin choices including a custom millimeter value.
- Lossless embedding on the default Original setting: the render goes into the PDF as a PNG at full resolution, with transparency kept as a soft mask.
- Three smaller presets when file size matters, with explicit JPEG quality and dpi targets instead of a vague compression slider.
- Several EPS files, or a mix of EPS and other images, merged into one PDF with one page per file and an order you set by dragging.
- Document metadata fields, and optional AES-256 encryption with an open password applied by qpdf. The password only controls opening; it does not restrict printing or copying.
- If one file in a batch cannot be rendered, it is reported as an error and the PDF is still built from the files that worked.

EPS to PDF questions
Does the PDF keep the vector paths from my EPS?
No. Our converter renders the EPS to a bitmap and places that image on the page, so the PDF contains pixels. For a genuinely vector PDF, run epstopdf or ps2pdf locally (both come with TeX Live or Ghostscript), open the EPS in Inkscape and use Save As, or save it as PDF from Illustrator.
Can it convert EPS to PDF while keeping layers?
No. The EPS is flattened into one image and the PDF has a single flat page, so there are no layers or optional content groups to toggle. If you need layers in the PDF, export from Illustrator with Create Acrobat Layers enabled, or save one EPS per layer and merge the pages here.
How do I get a high resolution EPS to PDF conversion?
There is no dpi option here. The artwork is rendered at one pixel per PostScript point and the presets only downsample, so Original gives the most detail we produce. For more, render locally with Ghostscript at a chosen resolution, or enlarge the artboard before exporting the EPS.
Is the text in my EPS searchable or selectable in the PDF?
No. Type becomes part of the image, so it cannot be selected, searched or edited, and there is no OCR in this converter. Keep an editable copy of the artwork if you may need the text later.
Can I convert several EPS files at once, and do I get one PDF per file?
You can upload several, but they always become one PDF with one page per file, named merged.pdf. Batches are capped at 10 files as a guest or on a free account, 25 on Plus and 50 on Pro. For separate PDFs, convert one file at a time.
The job failed with "No valid images found to merge into PDF". What now?
That message means the renderer could not read any uploaded file, usually a truncated or corrupt EPS or a PostScript variant it rejects. Re-save the file from the application that made it, or export a fresh EPS or PNG from Inkscape or Illustrator and convert that.
What are the file size limits?
50 MB per file without signing in, 100 MB with a free account, 200 MB on Plus and 1 GB on Pro. Files over the cap are rejected before conversion with a message naming the limit. Conversion is free and needs no sign-up.
What happens to my file after the conversion?
The upload is processed on our servers and deleted as soon as the job finishes. The PDF stays available through an unguessable download link for about four hours, then it is deleted automatically. File names, sizes, formats and outcomes are logged, and signed-in users get a conversion history entry.
