Why Convert ODP to PDF?

ODP is the OpenDocument Presentation format saved by LibreOffice Impress and Apache OpenOffice Impress. PowerPoint and Google Slides can import it, but imports often shift text boxes and swap fonts, and many people you send slides to have no presentation software at all. A PDF of the deck opens on any phone or laptop and looks the way it did on your screen.

LibreOffice does the conversion on our servers, so the slides are drawn by the same engine Impress uses. It runs with a large installed font collection, including Microsoft-compatible substitutes and Noto fonts for most scripts, and fonts used on the slides are embedded in the PDF. Most decks take a few seconds.

Each visible slide becomes one PDF page at the slide's own size, so a 16:9 deck stays 16:9 and a 4:3 deck stays 4:3. Text stays selectable and searchable. Slide names become PDF bookmarks, which helps when someone needs to jump to slide 30. Every object is drawn where it sits on the slide, as in Impress's normal editing view.

Some things a PDF cannot hold, and some we leave out. Animations and slide transitions are dropped. Hidden slides are skipped. Speaker notes are not exported, and the PDF has no handout layout with several slides per page. If you need notes pages or handouts, export from Impress yourself, where the PDF export dialog offers notes pages.

This conversion suits sharing lecture slides with students, sending a pitch deck to someone who cannot open ODP, attaching slides to a submission portal that only accepts PDF, and archiving a finished talk.

How to Convert ODP to PDF

  1. In Impress, unhide any slides you want in the PDF; hidden slides are not exported.
  2. If the deck is large because of photos, note the limits: 50 MB per file without an account, 100 MB when signed in, 200 MB on Plus and 1 GB on Pro.
  3. Upload the .odp file, or up to 10 presentations at once, and click Convert.
  4. Download the PDF. Page through it once to confirm slides with unusual fonts look right before you share it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are speaker notes included?

No. The PDF contains the slides only. To get your notes into a PDF, open the deck in Impress, choose File > Export as PDF, and enable the option to export notes pages.

What happens to hidden slides?

They are skipped, so a 20-slide deck with two hidden slides gives an 18-page PDF. Right-click a hidden slide in Impress and choose Show Slide if you want it included.

Can I print several slides per page as handouts?

Not with this converter: it always produces one slide per page at the slide's size. Most PDF readers can print several pages per sheet, which gives a similar handout on paper.

Do animations and transitions survive?

No. A PDF is a set of still pages. Each slide is drawn with all its objects visible where they sit on the slide, the way it looks in Impress's editing view, and slide transitions are removed.

Will my fonts look right?

Every slide font that exists on our server travels inside the PDF. Missing fonts get a stand-in, a metric-compatible one when available, so most text keeps its line breaks. Decks built around a rare display font are the ones to check.

Can I convert ODP to PowerPoint instead?

Yes. Use our ODP to PPTX converter if the recipient needs to edit the slides. Choose PDF when they only need to view or print them.

My presentation is too large to upload. What can I do?

Without an account each file can be up to 50 MB, and signing in raises that to 100 MB. Paid plans go to 200 MB (Plus) and 1 GB (Pro). You can also compress the images in Impress (right-click a picture, Compress) before uploading.

How long is my presentation kept?

The ODP you upload is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes. The finished PDF is kept for roughly four hours so you can download it, then removed.
