What this converter does with an EPUB
An EPUB is a ZIP archive of XHTML chapters, CSS and images, meant to reflow to whatever screen it lands on. That is excellent for reading and awkward for everything else: you cannot hand it to a print shop, most desktop PDF readers will not touch it, and some tablets and course platforms accept PDF only. Converting fixes the text onto pages you can print, mark up or attach.
Our pipeline unzips the book (falling back to 7z for ZIP64 or partly damaged archives), reads the OPF spine to learn the real chapter order, and falls back to alphabetical file order when there is no OPF. Every stylesheet in the book is concatenated into one sheet, the chapter bodies are grouped into batches of roughly half a megabyte, each batch is printed by headless Chrome, and the batches are joined into a single PDF. Nothing runs in your browser and no reader app or Calibre install is involved.
What comes through well is the text: headings, paragraphs, lists, blockquotes, italics, and the colors and type sizes the book's CSS asks for. Fonts in the output PDF are embedded as subsets, so the file looks the same on any machine, and CJK text renders with the fonts installed on our servers.
What does not come through: there are no bookmarks and no clickable table of contents, and in our testing the PDF carried no link annotations at all, so internal chapter links and footnote jumps become plain text. A nav document that is not listed in the spine is not printed. Images and fonts referenced the usual way, as ../Images/cover.jpg from a Text/ subfolder, do not resolve, because relative paths are read from the extraction root. Illustrated books, comics and cookbooks therefore arrive as text with gaps.
There is also one defect you should know about before uploading: when a book's total rendered height is small, roughly under fifteen pages' worth of content, only the material before the first chapter break is printed. A two-chapter sample came out with chapter one alone. Long novels and documentation convert in full; for short books, or any book where you need images and a navigable table of contents, a desktop tool such as Calibre is the honest recommendation today.
How to convert EPUB to PDF
- Start from a DRM-free EPUB. There is no decryption step anywhere in this pipeline, so a file encrypted by a bookstore cannot be rendered; export a DRM-free copy from the app you bought it in.
- Look at the length. If the book is only a chapter or two, expect the first-chapter limitation described above and consider a desktop converter instead.
- Upload the file. Guests can send up to 50 MB per file, which is comfortable for text books; a free account raises it to 100 MB. Most EPUBs we see are around 2 MB.
- Run the conversion. A plain text book is typically done in a few seconds, while a long or image-heavy one can take well over a minute as each batch is rendered.
- Download the PDF within about four hours. Open the last page and confirm the final chapter is there before you delete the EPUB, because a failure while joining batches can leave you with the early part of the book only.
- If you need page numbers, a TOC or chapter bookmarks, add them afterwards in a PDF editor, since the conversion does not generate any.

Why does my PDF contain only the first chapter?
Because the book is short. When the whole book renders to less than about fifteen pages of height, the renderer prints a single tall page and stops at the first chapter break, so later chapters are dropped. There is no setting that changes this, so for a one- or two-chapter book use a desktop converter such as Calibre.
Are the images in my eBook kept?
Only if they are referenced relative to the root of the archive. Most EPUBs keep chapters in a folder like OEBPS/Text/ and images in OEBPS/Images/, and those paths do not resolve during rendering, so the pictures are missing from the PDF. Fonts referenced the same way are lost as well, and the book falls back to server fonts.
Will the PDF have a table of contents or bookmarks?
No. The conversion produces page content only: no PDF bookmarks, no outline, and no working internal links. A nav.xhtml that is not part of the spine is not even printed. If navigation matters, add bookmarks later in a PDF editor.
What page size do I get?
It depends on length, and it is not selectable. A long book becomes US Letter pages with half-inch margins. A short one becomes a single page as tall as its content, not A4 and not Letter. If you need A4 specifically, re-paginate the PDF afterwards in a page-setup tool.
Can you convert books bought from Kindle, Kobo or Google Play?
Not if they still carry store DRM. Our converter has no DRM removal, so an encrypted file will not render into readable text. Kindle's own .azw and .mobi files are not accepted here at all; only .epub is.
The conversion failed. What should I do?
Retry first: the failures recorded on this pair are transient server-side errors, and the renderer can also fail to start inside its 30-second launch window under load. If it fails again, check that the file really is a ZIP-based EPUB by opening it in a reader, re-export it from the app that produced it, and shorten a very long file name, since names over 255 bytes break the output path.
Do I need an account, and how long is the file kept?
No account is needed for files up to 50 MB. The EPUB you upload is deleted as soon as the job ends, and the finished PDF stays downloadable for roughly four hours before automatic deletion. Conversion runs on our servers, not on your device, and file names, sizes and outcomes are logged for operations.
