Why Convert ODT to PDF?
ODT is the OpenDocument Text format, the default save format of LibreOffice Writer and Apache OpenOffice Writer. Word can open it, but it often reflows the layout, and phones, school portals and job application forms usually want a PDF. Sending a PDF means the recipient sees the pages exactly as you laid them out, whatever software they use.
We convert with LibreOffice, the same engine that wrote most ODT files in the first place. Your document is passed to a recent LibreOffice release running on our servers in a container with a large font library: Microsoft-compatible substitutes, Noto with Chinese, Japanese and Korean coverage, and many more. If that service is unavailable, a local LibreOffice installation on the same server takes over. Most documents finish within a couple of seconds after upload.
What carries over: page size, margins and page breaks as LibreOffice paginates them, tables, images, headers and footers, and footnotes. Fonts used in the text are embedded in the PDF, so it looks the same on any device. Headings become clickable PDF bookmarks, and hyperlinks stay clickable. A font that is not installed on our server is replaced; where a metric-compatible substitute exists, such as Carlito for Calibri, line breaks stay put.
What changes: comments are left out of the PDF. Tracked changes are printed the way Writer shows them, with colored, underlined insertions and change bars in the margin, so accept or reject them before converting. The output is a standard PDF, not PDF/A and not tagged for screen readers. If an archive or accessibility requirement asks for either, export from LibreOffice with those options set.

How to Convert ODT to PDF
- Open the document in Writer one last time if you can: accept or reject tracked changes, and remove the password if the file has one (File > Save As, untick "Save with password").

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert an OpenOffice or LibreOffice file to PDF without either program installed?
Yes. The conversion runs with LibreOffice on our servers, so all you need is the .odt file and a browser. It works the same for documents saved by Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice or any other program that writes ODT.
Why does it say my document is password-protected?
This is the most common reason an ODT to PDF conversion fails. A password-protected ODT is encrypted, and the converter cannot open it without the password. Open the file in LibreOffice or OpenOffice, choose File > Save As, untick "Save with password", save, and upload the new copy.
Are comments and tracked changes included in the PDF?
Comments are not included. Tracked changes appear as markup: inserted text is colored and underlined, with a bar in the margin. To get a clean PDF, use Edit > Track Changes > Manage in Writer and accept or reject all changes before uploading.
Will my fonts look the same?
Fonts installed on our server are embedded in the PDF. A font we do not have is replaced, and where a metric-compatible substitute exists (Carlito for Calibri, for example) the line breaks do not move. With a rare decorative or corporate font, compare the PDF against the original before sending it.
Do bookmarks and links work in the PDF?
Headings are exported as PDF bookmarks, so readers can jump between sections from the sidebar, and web links in the text remain clickable.
Is the PDF suitable for long-term archiving?
It is a standard PDF, which is fine for sharing and printing. It is not PDF/A. If an archive, court or university requires PDF/A, export from LibreOffice yourself with the PDF/A option checked.
Can I turn an ODT into JPG images?

How long do you keep my document?
The uploaded ODT is deleted from our server once its conversion finishes. The PDF stays available for download for about four hours and is then deleted automatically.
