AMR to MP3 Converter
Turn .amr voice memos and phone call recordings into MP3 files that any player, editor or upload form will accept. The MP3 keeps the telephone-band sound of the original, because AMR only ever stored speech frequencies.

Why AMR Recordings Need Converting
AMR, short for Adaptive Multi-Rate, is a speech codec standardized for GSM and 3G mobile networks. Phones reused it for voice notes and recordings because it packs speech into tiny files, at most around 12 kbps in its common narrowband form. You meet .amr files in old feature-phone backups, the sound recorder apps of earlier Android phones, and call-recording apps. Plenty of media players, audio editors, transcription tools and upload forms won't take .amr, while MP3 is accepted almost everywhere.
MiConvert decodes the recording on its servers with FFmpeg's built-in AMR decoders, which handle both narrowband AMR-NB (8 kHz) and wideband AMR-WB (16 kHz, the codec behind HD Voice calls), and encodes the result as MP3 with LAME. Nothing else is applied: no noise reduction, no volume normalization, no resampling.
The MP3 keeps the recording's sample rate and its single mono channel, so it sounds just like the AMR did; converting can't add the high frequencies a phone codec never captured. The converter asks for 192 kbps, but MP3 caps the bitrate at low sample rates, so narrowband recordings come out at 64 kbps and wideband ones at 160 kbps. Either way the MP3 is several times larger than the AMR, a fair trade for a file that plays everywhere.
People use this to rescue voice memos from an old phone, share a recorded interview or lecture, attach a call recording to a support case, or feed audio into a transcription service. One quirk worth knowing: some Android call recorders save AMR audio under a .mpeg extension. This page accepts those files too and identifies the audio by its content, so you don't need to rename them.
How to Convert AMR to MP3
- Copy the recordings off the phone. On Android they often sit in a Recordings, Sounds or call recorder folder; in an old phone backup, look for files ending in .amr.
- Upload the recordings, up to 10 per batch without a paid plan (Plus allows 25, Pro 50). Voice recordings are small, so size limits rarely matter.
- Start the conversion. A typical recording is done in a second or two.
- Download the MP3s. Each keeps the base name of its recording, so dated recorder file names stay in order.
- Play one file to check it before you delete the originals from the phone.

AMR to MP3 FAQ
Will the MP3 sound better than the AMR?
No. AMR stores telephone-band speech, and that is what the MP3 contains. The conversion changes how the audio is packaged, not how it sounds. If a recording is hard to understand, run it through the noise reduction in an audio editor afterward.
Why is the MP3 so much bigger than the AMR file?
AMR is built to squeeze speech into very few bits. MP3 is a general music codec, and the converter encodes at the highest bitrate the MP3 encoder accepts for the recording's sample rate, so expect a file several times larger.
Does it handle AMR-WB recordings?
Yes. Wideband AMR files, which carry an AMR-WB header and 16 kHz audio, are decoded the same way as narrowband ones and come out as 16 kHz MP3s.
My call recorder saved files as .mpeg. Can I convert them?
Yes. Upload them as they are. The converter looks at the audio inside rather than trusting the extension.
Can I turn an MP3 back into AMR?
Yes, MiConvert can also encode MP3 to AMR. It produces narrowband AMR at 12.2 kbps, 8 kHz mono, which is what phones and voice systems expect.
Is there a limit on how many recordings I can convert?
A batch can hold 10 recordings without a paid plan, 25 with Plus and 50 with Pro. Guests can upload files up to 50 MB and free accounts up to 100 MB, far more than a voice memo needs.
What happens to private recordings I upload?
Your AMR file is removed from our server as soon as its MP3 has been written, and the MP3 is kept only for the four-hour download window before a cleanup job removes it. Download promptly if the recording is sensitive.
