Will the SVG keep the colours from my JPG?
No — the tracer outputs a single-colour silhouette. It finds the outlines in your image and rebuilds them as vector paths, so the result is one solid fill you can recolour in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or Cricut Design Space. If you need a multi-colour vector, trace each colour layer separately or start from artwork that is already vector.
What happens to a transparent background?
It is flattened onto white before tracing, because the tracer works on a black-and-white image and has no concept of alpha. Anything that was transparent becomes part of the white background and is left out of the traced shape. The SVG itself has no background fill, so it drops onto any colour cleanly.
What kind of image traces well?
High-contrast, flat artwork: logos, icons, symbols, signatures, stencils, line art and text. Those have clean edges that map directly onto vector paths. Photographs trace poorly — there are no distinct boundaries to follow, so you get a noisy blob rather than a usable shape.
