How Your SVG Is Rebuilt as EPS
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a single-page PostScript drawing with a declared bounding box, so other programs can place it like an image. Print shops, sign and vinyl cutters, some stock and merchandise sites and older Illustrator, CorelDRAW or QuarkXPress workflows still ask for it, while many of them never accepted SVG, the XML vector format of the web.
MiConvert renders your SVG with rsvg-convert (librsvg) through cairo's PostScript backend and writes an EPS 3.0 file at PostScript language level 3. Paths, strokes, solid fills and gradients are written as vector PostScript, with gradients kept as smooth shadings. ImageMagick is deliberately not used here, because it would turn the drawing into pixels first.
Text does not stay text. Each glyph is converted to outlines, so the EPS needs no font files and prints the same anywhere, but the words can no longer be edited as type. The typeface is taken from fonts installed on our server: a family the server does not have is replaced by a fallback sans-serif, so outline text in your editor before uploading if the exact font matters.
PostScript has no transparency. A fill with partial opacity over empty canvas is flattened to a solid tint as if printed on white paper. Group opacity over other shapes, and filters such as blur or drop shadow, make cairo render the whole drawing as a 300 ppi bitmap inside the EPS, which stays printable but is no longer editable vector art. Linked images on the web are not downloaded, so embed bitmaps before uploading.
Size and placement follow the SVG. One SVG pixel becomes 0.75 point (96 pixels per inch), physical units such as mm or in are honored, and the bounding box is trimmed to the artwork, so empty margins around it are dropped.
How to Convert SVG to EPS
- If the exact typeface matters, convert text to outlines first: Path > Object to Path in Inkscape, or Type > Create Outlines in Illustrator.
- For fully vector output, remove or flatten opacity, blurs and drop shadows; otherwise the EPS will contain a 300 ppi image.
- Embed any linked images in the SVG, since the converter does not fetch files from the web.
- Upload up to 10 SVGs at a time (Plus allows 25, Pro 50); EPS is already the selected output.
- Open the EPS in your layout or cutting software and check its size before sending it to print.

Will my EPS stay vector?
Yes for paths, shapes, strokes, gradients and text. The exception is transparency effects and filters: group opacity over other shapes, blur or drop shadow make the converter render the drawing as a 300 ppi image inside the EPS.
What happens to my fonts and text?
Text is converted to outlines using fonts installed on our server. That makes the EPS independent of fonts, but text is no longer editable, and a font the server lacks is replaced by a fallback sans-serif. Outline text yourself beforehand to keep the exact typeface.
Why is my EPS much larger than the SVG?
Almost always because the SVG used transparency or a filter, so the EPS holds a 300 ppi bitmap of the artwork instead of paths. Remove those effects, or flatten them in your editor, and convert again.
Why did my SVG fail to convert?
The converter needs valid XML. A common case is an SVG copied from a web page that uses xlink:href without declaring the namespace; add xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" to the root svg element, or re-save the file from Inkscape.
How big will the EPS be when placed in a layout?
Pixel sizes convert at 96 per inch, so a 960 pixel wide drawing is 10 inches wide. If you set the SVG's width and height in mm or inches, the EPS keeps that physical size.
Does the EPS have a background?
No. Areas without artwork are left unpainted, and the bounding box hugs the visible artwork, so the EPS places cleanly over other content.
How long do you keep my SVG and EPS?
Once the EPS is written, your SVG is wiped from the server. The EPS waits roughly four hours for download before it is purged. Rendering takes place on our servers.
